چکیده

An alternative method to channel estimation is presented as a means of supplying a RAKE receiver with the coefficients for Maximal Ratio Combining (MRC). The proposed RAKE receiver utilizes TimeHopping Pulse Position Modulation (TH-PPM), and is specifically designed to be used in Ultra Wideband (UWB) communication systems in which channel estimation becomes problematic because of the high sampling rate required. The MRC coefficients are determined by a simple process of averaging the received energy for a given correlator finger over the course of a pilot sequence of P pulses. Performance of the proposed RAKE receiver is investigated through simulation using a discrete-time implementation of the multi-path channel model published by the IEEE 802.15.3 task group. The proposed RAKE receiver’s BitError-Rate (BER) performance is compared against other RAKE receivers relying on

The Performance Evaluation of 802.15.3a UWB Channel Model with Different Rake Receiver Fingers of Maximal Ratio Combiner Scheme

In this paper we proposed an analytical method which is used for 802.15.3a UWB channel to find out the effect of rake receiver finger with Maximal ratio combining (MRC) scheme. We used a mathematical model which is derived while considering the receiver is MRC rake receiver. In this receiver we assigned weights to rake receiver finger in such a way to maximize the signal to noise ratio (SNR). W...

Partial Parallel Interference Cancellation Techniques with Adaptive RAKE Combining for DS-CDMA Ultra-Wideband Wireless Communications

Two kinds of RAKE receiver combining schemes are investigated for a partial parallel interference cancellation (PPIC) technique, including maximal ratio combining (MRC) and minimum mean-squared error (MMSE) combining, in directsequence code-division multiple access (DS-CDMA) ultrawideband (UWB) systems. We use the normalized least meansquared algorithm to approach the MMSE solution for the RAKE...

Comparison between Coherent and Noncoherent Receivers for UWB Communications

Wepresent a comparison between coherent and noncoherent UWB receivers, under a realistic propagation environment, that takes into account also the effect of path-dependent pulse distortion. As far as coherent receivers are concerned, both maximal ratio combining (MRC) and equal gain combining (EGC) techniques are analyzed, considering a limited number of estimated paths. Furthermore, two classi...

Adaptive MMSE Rake-Equalizer Receiver Design with Channel Estimation for DS-UWB System

In this paper, a robust adaptive MMSE Rake-equalizer receiver scheme is presented with channel estimation that has been transmitted in Direct Sequence-Ultra Wideband (DS-UWB) system. The DS-UWB has a fine path resolution by transmitting information with ultra short pulses. The Rake receiver is known as a technique that can effectively combine paths with different delays and obtain the path dive...

Performance Measures and Statistical Quantities of Rake Receivers Using Maximal-Ratio Combining on the IEEE 802.15.3a UWB Channel Model

Closed-form expressions for the average signal-tonoise ratio (SNR) and amount of fading are derived for a rake receiver using maximal-ratio combining on the IEEE 802.15.3a ultra-wideband (UWB) channel model. It is also shown that all moments of the SNR and all joint moments of the channel coefficients can be expressed in closed form.
